PATRONS OXFORD INSURANCE COMPANY

Driven by significant growth and a strategic initiative to attract a younger, more diverse workforce, Patrons Oxford Insurance Company elected to relocate its operations to Portland, becoming the inaugural tenant within the City's Technology Park on Rand Road.

Collaborating closely with the Patrons Oxford building committee, we designed a contemporary two-story, adaptable office building characterized by abundant natural light, a comprehensive range of meeting spaces, a fitness suite with locker rooms and showers, and thoughtfully delineated zones for public and private activities. The building's orientation has been carefully considered to optimize the site's natural features and solar exposure. Employing a carbon-sequestering mass-timber structural system with glulam beams and columns, complemented by selective structural steel reinforcement, the high-performance design is projected to exceed current energy codes by 30%. A rooftop photovoltaic array is integrated to offset 35-40% of the building's electrical and mechanical system energy consumption. The incremental upfront investment in the enhanced thermal envelope and photovoltaic array is anticipated to be recouped through substantial energy savings within a ten-year timeframe.

Hans Breaux of PROJECT CO+OP provided architectural design services in collaboration with project architect Ryan Kanteres of Simons Architects.
