Third Party Sustainability Certifications

Passive House

PROJECT CO+OP provides Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) services for your passive house project of any scale. We have extensive experience in energy modelling to the Passive House (Phius) standard and was CPHC to the first passive house certified high school in the United States.

LEED - Homes & New Construction BD+C

As as an official LEED for Homes Providership, we support LEED Green Raters throughout the process to ensure quality assurance and control protocols are implemented. This helps project teams attain success and is required for certification. Once the project documentation is complete, we interface with the certification authority (GBCI) for the project to be awarded the appropriate level of achievement.

Advanced Energy Analysis

We use dynamic and advanced simulations tools to assess energy loads, load profiles, energy use performance and costs under various design and control strategies. Our analysis informs equipment sizing, identifies cost-effective energy conservation measures (ECMs), and supports energy performance goals, energy code compliance, utility rebate, and green building certification submittals. Our approach aligns with ASHRAE/IBPSA 209 guidelines.

Concept Energy Engineering

We develop early-phase energy strategies that inform massing, orientation, envelope choices, and system concepts. Our guidance helps teams make high-impact decisions when changes are least costly, enabling them to set realistic energy goals and streamline architectural and engineering concepts.

Parametric Modeling

We use cutting-edge technology and industry leading expertise to perform iterative, multi-variable simulations of design options for envelope assemblies, glazing ratios, shading, HVAC systems, and controls. Our process provides clear comparisons that help teams optimize performance without sacrificing design intent or budget priorities.

Thermal Comfort Studies

We analyze occupant comfort using ASHRAE 55 and climate-adaptive methods under various design and operational scenarios. Our studies reduce hot/cold complaints, support passive strategies, and help meet performance-based ventilation and comfort.

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)

A life cycle assessment of a building is an analysis process that accounts for all of the inputs and all of the outputs of a project. The goal is usually to determine whether a project is a “net good” project or what other decisions are needed to achieve such. Typically this goes beyond understanding operational energy usage, but also considering embodied energy and carbon footprint. Atypical from other LCA’s, PROJECT CO+OP considers social justice to be equal to environmental assessment. In order to perform a complete LCA, we pull from a variety of sources and perform calculations on nearly every aspect of a project to yield an easy to understand “performance dashboard” for our clients.

Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)

We quantify long-term costs of systems or design strategies, incorporating energy savings, maintenance, and replacement over time. We strive to embed the cost analysis at every key decision-making milestone. Our support helps owners and capital planners select solutions with the best total cost of ownership, particularly crucial for public, institutional, or mission-driven projects.

Post Occupancy Studies

Measurement & Verification

In the realm of energy management, ensuring that implemented strategies deliver the promised savings and performance is crucial. Our Measurement & Verification (M&V) services are designed to provide you with accurate, transparent, and reliable data on the effectiveness of your energy projects, ensuring that you achieve your sustainability and cost-saving goals.

Energy Auditing – ASHRAE Level I, II, III

We conduct walk-through to detailed investment-grade audits for existing buildings to identify low- and no-cost improvements as well as capital upgrades. We prioritize opportunities by energy savings, payback, and system condition to support deferred maintenance planning.

Solar Access Analysis

We simulate site-specific solar access and shading for photovoltaic siting and conceptual PV system sizing. Our insights inform solar-ready roof planning and net-zero design.

Building Science

We leverage our comprehensive expertise in Building Science, employing advanced heat and moisture transfer simulations to inform our recommendations for both existing structures and historic preservation projects.  Our approach is critical for designing durable assemblies, reducing liability, and improving long-term occupant health and material integrity.

Thermal Bridging Analysis

We use 2D thermal modeling of envelope details (windows, parapets, slab edges, etc.) to identify and reduce thermal bridging. Our analysis reduces thermal bridging details, thereby improving overall envelope performance, minimizing condensation issues, and optimizing investment.

Hygrothermal & Mold Growth Potential Analysis

Using WUFI Passive, WUFI Plus and WUFI Bio VTT, we are able to evaluate building envelope assemblies through dynamic analysis to assess drying (or wetting) potential of the given assembly over time—typically about five years. From this assembly profile, we are then able to further forecast potential mold growth within the given assembly based on moisture content, material susceptibility, indoor environmental cycles, outside environmental cycles.

Daylighting & Glare

We conduct detailed simulations to evaluate daylight availability, distribution, and possible glare issues. Develop strategies to manage glare and heat gain while maintaining appropriate daylight levels. These approaches are intended to address architectural considerations, occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and daylight performance.

These services aren’t just technical tasks — they’re decision-making tools. By embedding building science and energy performance into your process, we ensure your buildings are not only sustainable but also optimized for long-term performance.

Building Material Health

You want to build heatlhy, we get it. Let us worry about the ingredients in your building materials. We can support your team in selecting the least toxic and most durable materials. Depending on your end goals we can tailor our research to just a few “high touch” materials, or focus on many materials to help your support your goals of earning building certifications.

Resiliency Support and Planning

If you’re concerned about keeping your building operational during power outages and catastrophic events, our consultants can work with your team to integrate strategies for energy resiliency, occupant comfort and design so that your building is better equiped for emergencies.

General Sustainability Consulting

Whether it’s considering home weatherization or a deep energy retrofit we have something to offer for project teams with sustainability goals. This can include but are not limited to detailed energy modeling, calculated energy use intensity (EUI), assembly mold growth risk analysis, renewable energy assessment, and team education.
