HGTV URBAN OASIS 2020

Featured on HGTV, this 1900s home in a Portland suburb underwent a deep energy retrofit, reimagined for modern urban living.
This 1900s residence has been comprehensively reimagined for contemporary urban living. This distinctive project, featured on HGTV's "Urban Oasis 2020" and offered as a sweepstakes prize, involved a complete interior renovation of the existing structure and the addition of a new entry vestibule with mudroom and powder room, as well as a new master bedroom suite.
The original construction utilized split-face concrete block, an uncommon material for the region. Addressing issues of inadequate insulation, the uninsulated block walls, which contributed to a cold and drafty interior, underwent substantial remediation. A new wall assembly, incorporating 3" rigid insulation, a weather barrier, strapping, and new siding, was applied over the existing block. Coupled with new triple-glazed windows and doors, and updated heating and cooling systems, the renovated home now boasts a sixfold increase in energy efficiency.
